Hello Everybody!

I hope you are all taking the time to make some art, it’s amazing how good it makes you feel and how the minutes and the hours slip by when you are absorbed in making something.

Today we are going to start off making patterns.  It’s such an important part of drawing to practise making patterns and to make precise marks that show rhythm and ease.  Here is a page from my sketch book, can you do the same and make some of your own.  This will help you in the next part of the activity this week.

How did you get on?  The next thing I would like you to do is to find a picture from a magazine and cut a section of it out.  When you have done that stick it onto a piece of paper, anywhere you like.

Then when you have extended the picture using the original ideas and adding your own patterns and designs you can colour in using paint or crayon.

The finished picture, extended and coloured in.

Some examples of what I cut out from magazines.

The original clip of art for this picture was by the Russian artist Kandinsky. I hope you enjoy this activity, it’s one of my favourites and great for exploring pattern and colour.
