Context and Rationale

Our Before and After School Activities are a key part of our commitment to providing exceptionally varied opportunities and stimulating children to Be the Best they can Be! They particularly focus on our four curriculum pillars of the Arts, Music, Outdoor Learning and Sport. We make full use of our extensive indoor and outdoor facilities, building on the strong relationships children have with adults. We do this by:

  • Encouraging staff, parents and community members to lead activities they have an expertise in – School Councillors regularly share requests for additional activities they are keen to provide
  • Ensuring that there is a range of activities on a daily basis
  • Allowing as many pupils as possible to participate in at least one activity
  • Keeping the cost of our activities very low to make them as accessible as possible
  • Trying wherever possible to ensure that all age groups are involved on a daily basis

A waiting list system means that as many children as possible are able to access oversubscribed activities. Whilst we are aware that we cannot meet each child’s wishes every term, we aim to do so over time. Each half term we review the existing provision to look at ways we can make it even better next term. We actively seek and receive feedback from parents – please email activities@heathbrook.org if you have any comments or suggestions.
