“Majestic. I loved it,” said Richard as he walked out of the South Bank yesterday after a hard day’s work translating foreign children’s picture books into English.
First, we looked at trying to work out what the pictures meant by themselves. Then we did a literal translation of the words using a dictionary. After lunch, we thought about idioms and puns and how we could create a nuanced translation!
Finally, after all that, we had to stand up on stage in our groups and present back what we had done and how we had overcome any difficulties. It was hard work, but as Richard put it so well, it was “majestic”!
