What a lot of democracy! At the beginning of every academic year, pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 elect new school councillors to represent their views.
Following assemblies about democracy and the rule of law, the children in each year group took part in hustings. Lots of children gave speeches encouraging their peers to vote for them. The children showed enormous respect towards and support for each other as each candidate gave a speech outlining how they would carry out the responsibilities of being a school councillor. At the end of the hustings, we turned our library into a polling station with a ballot box previously used in national adult elections. Each year group voted for two girls and two boys and the results will be shared soon.
