When you start in year 3 at Heathbrook you are given your first professional sketch book full of good quality paper to record your art work in. The new year 3 classes were overjoyed to receive theirs. The children keep them from years 3 to 6 and they take them home when they leave school. We wanted the first page to be really special so I gave them a picture of a painting by Jean Miro called “Horse, Pipe and Red Flower” I cut it up into little squares so the class could focus on the pattern, colour and detail. We looked at using our paint brushes correctly by just using the tip and mixing the water colours in palettes. We then went on to look at different drawing techniques that show shadow and texture. There is so much to learn but the whole class did really well and have made huge improvements since last year.
