Reception
Welcome to the Reception Class Updates webpage where you will find the latest information about what’s going on in Reception!
Please make sure you read our First Week Information letter from Ben Roberts explaining ways to support communication and answer any of your questions.
Enjoy our Blogs
In our regular blogs we will be sharing photos of what’s been going on in Reception so you can talk more about school learning at home. When we know whether we have permission or not to share photos of the children it means we can share more photos of what the learning looks like, so please complete our In-school Image Consent Form if you haven’t already.
This Week’s Learning in Reception!
Week beginning 5th October 2026
Hello Reception Parents and Carers!
This week the children have been continuing their phonics lessons. We have been focusing on the letters: C, K, U, B and F. Next week we will be learning the following sounds: E, L, H, R and J. Maybe you could go on a sound hunt at home and find what items begin with the sounds mentioned above! We would love to hear or see any pictures of your sound hunts!
In maths this week the children have been gathering a deep sense of the numbers 2, 3 and 4. Making small collections of items as well as big and medium. There has been a big focus on even if there are different objects or different colours we still have the same number altogether. Our stem sentence this week has been: “1 and another 1 and another 1 and ANOTHER 1 makes 4”. Helping the children to understand that a larger number is made up of 1s.
In the provision the children have continued their learning on our topic of Loving London! We have read and reenacted the text “The Queen’s Hat” by Steve Antony. As well as designing our own hats we have also been creating models of famous London landmarks for our schoolwide art project.
On Thursday we were very lucky to have a visit from Jigsaw Drama Club where the children acted out a London Adventure! The children did fantastic listening and engaging with all of the excitement! We got to pretend to board the London underground, a black taxi cab and visit some of the landmarks we have been learning about such as Big Ben, The London Eye and even BUCKINGHAM PALACE where we got to meet the King and Queen!
Thank you for your continued support and for remembering to put all 3 books in their bag everyday!
Wishing you a wonderful and restful weekend..
Housekeeping
- Please wear PE kit to school on… (no need to bring school clothes to change)
- Please keep library books in bag so these can be changed each week
Home Learning
We provide home learning to develop children’s independence and confidence, consolidating what is being taught in school and preparing them for future learning. We recognise that children and their families have differing circumstances and we aim to make our home learning appropriate and accessible for all pupils.
In Reception we encourage:
- Daily reading – at least 5 minutes per day
