This Week’s Learning
Week commencing: Monday 28th September 2026
This week, our learning is as follows:
Literacy – The Story of the Windrush – We are finishing our diary entries and publishing them this week. Then we will be looking at Poetry – Windrush Child by John Agard.
We also have our GL assessment for reading this week.
Maths – We have our end of unit Place Value assessment. Moving on to Addition and Subtraction. Step 1 Mental strategies; Step 2 Add whole numbers with more than four digits; Step 3 Subtract whole numbers with more than four digits; Step 4 Round to check answers.
Science – Our science topic this term in Living Things – we’re focusing on our enquiry investigation: Does the size of a mammal affect its gestation period? We will be researching and creating charts to show our findings.
RE – The first RE topic is Hinduism. Specifically, gods and beliefs. This week we will explore the significance of Janmashtami.
Our PSHE topic is: What makes up a person’s identity? As well as our BBB value: Readiness.
PE is on Tuesday Mornings and Thursday Afternoons. Please have the children come to school in their PE kit on these days.
Home Learning
We provide home learning to develop children’s independence and confidence, consolidating what is being taught in school and preparing them for future learning. We recognise that children and their families have differing circumstances and we aim to make our home learning appropriate and accessible for all pupils.
Mathletics is set weekly and is expected to be completed at home during the week. At least two First News tasks should be completed every week. If your child is unable to complete homework at home, we run a homework club before and after school; more details to follow but speak to your classteacher for more information. We recommend at least 20 minutes of reading a day. We also recommend doing Time Table Rockstars to help support your child’s times tables knowledge. Homework is set on a Monday.
